About Me

My name is Jessica Bird Hagestedt, but Birdie is my nickname.

I am an Institute for Integrative Nutrition* Certified Health Coach, an ACSM Certified Personal Trainer, a Wife and a Mama to a toddler and 2 fur babies, and I am completely bananas about integrative nutrition, fitness and balanced living.

As a youth I was involved in many sports and loved to be active. But even with my seemingly ‘healthy’ active daily living I faced challenges with body image, questions about my ‘diet’ and lived a life of extremes. These issues only increased and continued when I entered college as an NCAA D1 athlete along with the onset of social media. 

After college my challenges continued. I attempted to overcome them through knowledge; thus pursuing work in personal training, physical therapy and the medical field. My situation only slightly improved. But, once my son was born, my need to create a healthy, balanced life so he would have a positive role model amplified. I began to research subjects on mental health, self love, personal growth and organization, as well as 'how to' be a mom/raise a baby, and slowly found a healthy balance. 

With my experience I realized everyone has the ability to rewrite their story and create lifelong healthy & balanced lifestyles where they thrive, not just exist. I immediately knew I had found my purpose; I wanted to help others rewrite their health story and found that IIN’s* Coaching Certification would bridge the gap between my knowledge of the human body and my approach to balanced living.

All the above culminated in the creation of my functional wellness program: Balanced By Birdie; it incorporates an integrative, constructive & versatile approach to achieving the health you deserve to have.

10 Birdie Bits

  • My first love of movement started with Ballet and Jazz when I was three.

  • I hold a BA in Human Behavior & Health in the US from UC Berkeley; created by myself & an academic counselor.

  • The only bone I have ever broken was 2 week before my wedding. It was my elbow & from falling off a bike.

  • Along with my PT & Nutrition Certifications, I am also Stages Indoor Cycling Certified & love the energy and creative outlet that teaching provides.

  • I have only undergone 1 surgery in my life: a small hernia repair that resulted from pregnancy.

  • I have injured every major joint in my body at some point in my athletic career.

  • If I could change one thing about myself, it would be my inability to sing. I love to sing but I am tone deaf & pitch imperfect.

  • I am Type A & have learned to live with ADHD with anxiety & some depression.

  • I am a believer in semi-minimalist living to create healthier and more productive environments.

  • Popcorn and dark chocolate are two of my favorite go to snacks.
